Kekerengu Dreamtime
Kekerengu is located in the Kaikōura region and is also the name of the prominent fault line that runs through the area. These oil paintings on aluminium composite panel are based on sketches and collage studies developed during a journey from Kekerengu to south of Kaikōura township and back.
With the Kaikōura Ranges rising on one side and the Pacific Ocean stretching along the other, the landscape evokes a profound sense of the Sublime—a concept that has long informed the tradition of landscape painting and remains central to my practice. Through scale, layered painting techniques, and the transformation of observed forms, these works seek to convey feelings of awe, wonder, and our own insignificance within the natural world.
